How well do you think you know the rules and laws of football? Ever been watching a game and been baffled by a refereeing decision or thought to yourself that your granny could do better?!
Well now you have a chance to win a great “You are the Ref” book – the iconic publication that has been shedding light on the weird and wonderful world of football refereeing for nearly sixty years.
To celebrate our new partnership with “You are the Ref” – which will see a new refereeing conundrum published on Teachers Who Coach every week – we are offering our loyal readers a chance to win an exclusive copy of the “You are the Ref” book which is packed full of refereeing teasers and unusual situations that test the skills of the man in the middle.
The “You are the Ref” series has featured in various media publications since its first appearance in a Tottenham Hotspur magazine The Lilywhite in 1952, and became hugely popular in the 1970s when it was regularly featured in football magazine Shoot!
It was created by artist Paul Trevillion, who also worked on iconic football comic strip Roy of the Rovers, and was shortlisted for the Sports Journalists’ Association Cartoonist of the Year Award.
Former FA Cup final referee Keith Hackett, who had a spell in charge of the refereeing body Professional Game Match Officials Board (PGMOB), is the man behind the rulebook, after taking over the “You are Ref” series from former World Cup Final referee Clive Thomas.
The latest version of the “You are the Ref” book not only explains the rules and laws of the beautiful game clearly and concisely, it also features a sackful of unusual and unique refereeing conundrums that are synonymous with “You are the Ref”, and all are brilliantly illustrated by Trevillion.
“You are the Ref” covers all aspects of Refereeing and Assistant Referee training: Movement and Positioning; Recognition of offences; Viewing angles; Whistle and Flag Technique; Management of Mass Confrontation; Sports Psychology; Managing Conflict; Teamwork; Law 11 (offside) explained; Goal and target setting; How to deal with Assessments; Warming up; Warming Down; Polar Heart Monitors; Pre- Match preparation; Fit to play Ref?; Mentor programme; Coaching Referees; Body Language; Self-Assessment; and much, much more…
The book also includes a foreword by England’s 2010 World Cup Final referee and Champions League and Premier League veteran Howard Webb.
